“Wanna hit this booty?/Gotta do your civic duty”
Hip-hop legend Trina and rap icon Saucy Santana have teamed up with dating app BLK to get a message to the people.
Just in time for National Voter Education Week, the duo has released their new collab, “No Voting No Vucking” in an effort to get people to not only register to vote, but to actually vote in midterm elections and effect real change.
With lyrics like “Wanna hit this booty?/Gotta do your civic duty” and “gerrymander this coochie”, the hilarious and informative bop has us rushing out to the polls – and asking our partners to do the same. Remember girlies, that man could be perfect for you but if he says he doesn’t vote, that’s a red flag!
“I’m honored to use my platform to empower young people because not voting is definitely a red flag in a relationship. Period. ” said out rap star Saucy Santana in a statement. “Now, more than ever, we have to use our voices to stand up for what we believe in. Voting is sexy. Being informed is sexy.”
BLK, the largest app for Black singles, hopes the initiative encourages its users to vote. “Young people are the next generation of voters and represent a major voting bloc in this country,” their press release reads. “And while Gen-Z turnout increased in 2020, BLK and When We All Vote want to ensure youth continue this momentum by bringing even more young people into the voting process. Just in time for the 2022 Midterm Elections, No Voting No Vucking aims to motivate young Black citizens to vote, by calling out that exercising your basic civic duty of voting is the biggest turn-on of all.”
The app also announced an in-app Election Center, “a digital hub designed to shift the culture of voting and politics in the Black community, amplify the voices of Black voters, and drive Black voter registrations.” Jonathan Kirkland, head of brand and marketing for BLK, says that with the help of “these two cultural icons, we hope to empower a new generation of young voters to get involved in this and future elections.”
