Meghan Trainor Teases Her New Song ‘Mother’

She made you look!

Pop star Meghan Trainor is taking a break from going viral on TikTok to release a new song, "Mother".

The "Made You Look" singer-songwriter teased the upcoming music video on Instagram with a clip of a gloved hand spelling out m-o-t-h-e-r in sign language.

YouTube commented "I am your..." with the side eye emojis. We can only assume those are lyrics to the new song, though we're not sure why YouTube Shorts is premiering it.

And for those of you out of the loop on current slang, Mother, in this case, is not the woman who birthed you but instead refers to the way stans use it as an affirmation or adoration to express how a beloved pop star or Emmy-Award-winning actress effectively raised them with their body of work. Though it gained popularity amongst the LGBTQ+ community, clearly it's become a part of pop culture and is now a rather common slang term seen across social media and TikTok.

The comments are already chaotic. "This was for the gays and only the gays," said one commenter. "Not her making a song dedicated to Beyoncé," one Twitter user wrote, with dozens of variations inserting their own favorite pop star in place of Queen Bey.

It's easy to see why Trainor snatched the phrase to interpolate into her music, but will she use it appropriately? Or worse, what if the song is a dud? A song titled "Mother" that doesn't slap is a jailable offense. Or at the very least, a maternal dismissal.

We'll see how mother Trainor truly is after the song drops.

"Mother" is coming March 1.
