With *NSYNC popping back out of the woodwork after two decades of solo careers, fans of the iconic ‘00s boy band have been living their best lives. But Lance Bass recently expressed his surprise over the reception their mini-reunion has received—and is crediting Taylor Swift for helping make that happen.
“It is beautiful, you know? To be this age and the fans are still this excited; it is a dream come true,” the singer told Entertainment Tonight during the iHeartRadio Music Festival last week. “I had no idea the fandom would go this nuts.”
We can only imagine Bass was just being humble—boy bands never go out of style, after all. But Swift may have helped them jumpstart the welcome when they presented her with the Best Pop Award for “Anti-Hero” at the 2023 MTV Video Music Awards earlier this month.
As she accepted the award—and a friendship bracelet from Bass—Swift got distracted gushing about the “Tearin’ Up My Heart” singers.
“I’m not doing well pivoting from this to this,” she said, motioning from the group to her award. “I had your dolls… You guys are pop personified, so to receive this from your golden pop hands is really—it’s too much.”
The moment prompted Bass to later joke, “I blame Taylor Swift,” in regards to fans’ excitement over *NSYNC.
“I think she sicced the Swifites on us and I think the Swifties and the *NSYNCers just kind of created this tsunami,” he said. “And I think it’s been so fun!”
The group announced the release of their first single in two decades. “Better Place,” set for release on September 29, was recorded for the movie Trolls Band Together.

Bass admitted *NSYNC doesn’t currently have any “solid plans” to do anything beyond this new song, but considering the positive response they’ve received, it seems entirely possible that could change.
“We’re waiting for the [Hollywood] strike to end, we’ve got things to do,” he said. “But [the fans are definitely shaping our future.”
