Pop music legend Whitney Houston is finally getting a biopic from a major studio with a wide theatrical release.
With a release date set for December 23, 2022, I Wanna Dance With Somebody was written by Anthony McCarten and directed by Kasi Lemmons. Actress Naomi Ackie, best known for her roles in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, Lady McBeth, and The End of the F***ing World, has landed the coveted role of playing Houston in the film.
Other notable actors in the biopic include Stanley Tucci (Clive Davis), Clarke Peters (John Houston), Tamara Tunie (Cissy Houston), Ashton Sanders (Bobby Brown), and Nafessa Williams (Robyn Crawford). Given what’s been revealed in recent years about the romantic relationship between Houston and Crawford, fans are expecting that storyline to be brought up in the movie.

This dazzling first trailer proves that Ackie has been perfectly cast to bring Houston to life in the film. Just like other recent biopics about musicians, such as Bohemian Rhapsody and Rocketman, it appears that I Wanna Dance With Somebody will explore most of Houston’s life – not just one particular point in time.
Houston’s personal life was full of ups and downs, so audience members are already bracing themselves to experience this roller-coaster ride in the theaters. Nonetheless, I Wanna Dance With Somebody will surely remind the world of Houston’s great talent and incredible catalog of hit songs.
One thing is certain: we will always love Whitney Houston!
I Wanna Dance With Somebody opens in theaters on December 23.
