A new gay film is on the way starring Normal People and Aftersun actor Paul Mescal and Fleabag star Andrew Scott.
Strangers, directed by Andrew Haigh, is based on a 1987 Japanese novel of the same name by Taichi Yamada. Since it got picked up by Haigh, who is queer and previously directed Weekend and HBO's Looking, and the two leads are men, it's believed the straight leads of the novel have been reworked as gay.
It follows the story of a screenwriter named Adam "who, one night in his near-empty tower block in contemporary London, has a chance encounter with a mysterious neighbor that punctures the rhythm of his everyday life. As they start getting closer, Adam is pulled back to his childhood home where he discovers that his late parents are both still alive and look the same age as the day they died over 30 years ago."
Scott will play Adam and Mescal will play the character of Harry. Strangers will also star Claire Foy and Jamie Bell.
Filming and production of the film reportedly wrapped last October, and Mescal has said it's coming "at the end of the year."
With no other details or even a trailer released yet, we'll just have to patiently wait for the day Haigh and the production team is ready to share more.
