The teaser trailer for Saltburn is here and it looks wickedly decadent and erotic, with shades of The Talented Mr. Ripley. Yeah, we’re hooked.
The film stars Barry Keoghan and Jacob Elordi and is written and directed by Academy Award-winning filmmaker Emerald Fennell (Promising Young Woman). It’s being described as a “wicked tale of privilege and desire. Struggling to find his place at Oxford University, student Oliver Quick (Barry Keoghan) finds himself drawn into the world of the charming and aristocratic Felix Catton (Jacob Elordi), who invites him to Saltburn, his eccentric family’s sprawling estate, for a summer never to be forgotten.”
The film has been highly anticipated since its announcement, particularly by LGBTQ+ audiences who are, um, eager to see Keoghan and Elordi’s characters' connection grow and evolve. While we don't see much in the way of their reported romance in the trailer, there are some longing looks from the shadows on Oscar’s part, and sundrenched beauty shots of Felix that tease the passionate — and likely toxic — romance to come.
In the trailer, Oscar is at first reluctant but eventually agrees to join Felix at his family's sprawling estate. Once there he is greeted by beauty and a sinister yet pervading sense of wealth and privilege. As Felix draws Oscar further into his world, introducing him to his family, it's unclear what his place is there amongst the family.
What could possibly go wrong?
Saltburn is set to premiere at the 50th Telluride Film Festival this month, as well as at the 67th BFI London Film Festival in October. It is scheduled for a limited release in the United States on November 24 followed by a wide release on December 1. Watch the trailer below.
