Fans of Red, White & Royal Blue have been itching for updates on the film adaptation of Casey McQuiston’s hit novel, and now the first look at stills from the production has finally arrived.

The book revolves around Alex Claremont-Diaz, the son of the first female President of the United States, and his relationship with Prince Henry—who he initially despises. After the two get into a public altercation, they are forced to pretend to be friends to save face. But the animosity between them soon develops into a different kind of passion, leaving them with a new secret to keep under wraps.

The film is expected to follow the same plot as the novel, with Taylor Zakhar Perez taking on the role of Alex and Nicholas Galitzine portraying Prince Henry, with Sarah Shahi and Uma Thurman playing their respective mothers.

Now, we have our first look at the adaptation, showcasing the cake fight that launches the young men into their charade, as well as several other key moments between characters.

“Nick and I hit it off right away,” Zackhar Perez told Glamour. “We have this public [banter] with each other, but privately we’re really, really close mates. That’s kind of Alex and Henry in a lot of ways, negging each other and pushing each other’s buttons.”

“You need to have a partner in crime to embody these roles, and I think it’s so palpable when costars don’t have the chemistry,” he added.

Ted Malawer and Matthew López wrote the script, with López directing for the first time. Red, White & Royal Blue is expected to debut on Amazon Prime Video on August 11, 2023.
