Gay love is an international incident in the Red, White & Royal Blue trailer.
After months of waiting, the first footage from the highly anticipated (R-rated) gay rom-com is here and it looks fantastic.
The film is based on the best-selling novel by Casey McQuiston and follows Alex Claremont-Diaz (Taylor Zakhar Perez), who just so happens to be the son of the President of the United States (Uma Thurman), and Britain’s Prince Henry (Nicholas Galitzine). Despite having a whole lot in common — stunning good looks, undeniable charisma, international popularity — they also share one more thing: absolute disdain for each other. In other words, it’s a perfect setup for a romantic comedy.
When the two were on two different sides of an entire ocean, their rivalry wasn’t an issue. All is well until they’re finally face to face and end up having a very public altercation during a royal event. Naturally, this becomes a tabloid sensation, with global political implications. So both the president and the royal family go into damage-control mode, forcing the two young men to put on a public united front. Soon what once was an ice-cold feud begins to warm as unexpected sparks start to fly between the two. As they begin to get to know one another, Alex and Henry come to realize there is something so powerful and magnetic between the two of them. Or as Alex says in the trailer, “It’s like there’s a rope attached to my chest and it keeps pulling me toward you.” Squee.
Starring alongside Perez, Galitzine, and Thruman are Clifton Collins Jr., Sarah Shahi, Rachel Hilson, with Stephen Fry and Uma Thurman, Ellie Bamber, Thomas Flynn, Malcolm Atobrah, Akshay Khanna, Sharon D Clarke, Aneesh Sheth, and Juan Castano. Tony Award-winning playwright Matthew López makes his directorial debut with this film.
Red, White & Royal Blue premieres August 11 on Prime Video. Watch the trailer below.
