What's better than one Spider-Man? Three Spider-Women!

pride_site

The first trailer for Sony’s Madame Web movie is here, and we are officially caught up in its web.

If you're not familiar with the setup the trailer spins a narrative web. In it we see the life and powers of Cassandra Webb, a Manhattan paramedic played by Dakota Johnson who almost dies and afterward realizes that she has new clairvoyant powers that allow her to see the future with enough time to change it.

In the film, Webb has a special connection to three young women, played by Sydney Sweeney, Isabela Merced, and Celeste O’Connor. All three women not only have a connection to her in their lives, but they all become various versions of spider-based superheroes from the Marvel Universe.

Sweeney plays Julia Carpenter, also known as Spider-Woman, and we get a chance to see her in her costume. O’Connor is playing Mattie Franklin, another character who also uses the name Spider-Woman, but has four large spider legs coming out of her back. Merced plays Anya Corazon, also known as Araña.

In the film, a Spider-Man-esque supervillain named Ezekiel Sims, played by Tahar Rahim, is on a mission to kill the three young women. Sims wears a suit similar to Spider-Man, has similar powers, and can also see into the future like Webb.

There is plenty to get excited for in the trailer but there were a few moments that especially sent us into a Saphhic tailspin.

1. Timey-Wimey Wierdness

The trailer sets up Cassandra Webb's superpower which is to see the future and be able to change it. It's a cool effect that we see her put to butt-kicking use later in the trailer. We are here for it and high-key turned on.

2. Dakota Johnson Dakota-Johnsoning

Speaking of getting hot under the collar, literally every second that Dakota Johnson and that those baby blue eyes are on screen we just want to put ourselves in peril with hopes that she will swoop in and save us.

3. Spider Lady Team Up

What's better than Spider-Man? All the Spider-Women teaming up. This is giving The Craft vibes and if that's wrong, well sir, we're the weirdos that hard disagree.

4. Sydney Sweeney Sydney-Sweeneying

Sydney Sweeney's character is giving damsel in distress in the trailer — yeah we don't buy it. This girl is trouble and we are living for it.

5. Spider Lady Super Villians

In the trailer, Spider-Man gives Charlotte an ominous warning about her sidekicks' future potential. Sure, Jan. Seems like ol' Spidey is afraid of powerful women. Smash the patriarchy and do it in full supervillainess style, please and thank you.

Madame Web also stars Mike Epps, Emma Roberts, and Adam Scott. It’s directed by SJ Clarkson from a screenplay by SJ Clarkson & Claire Parker. It is scheduled to be released in theaters on February 14, 2024. Watch the trailer for yourself below
