Mother has arrived!

Jennifer Lopez is going full mama bear assassin in the new and highly anticipated Netflix action flick The Mother, and we love to see it.

Lopez stars a former assassin who’s had to live life as a recluse out in the wilderness after being forced to give up her daughter. However, when her daughter becomes the target of those who want revenge against the reformed killer, she’s forced out of retirement to protect her child.

The film co-stars Edie Falco, Joseph Fiennes, Lucy Paez, Omari Hardwick, Paul Raci, and Gael García Bernal, some of whom Lopez’s character will no doubt have to go through to find and protect her child.

It’s unclear who’s side Fiennes’ character is on. However, in the trailer, he does ask Lopez the question of the film. “You’d burn down our entire world for her?” he says. Lopez’s response makes her stance very clear. “Yes. I’m a killer. But, I’m also a mother. And I will die protecting her,” she states.

The film is directed by New Zealander Niki Caro who previously led the live-action Mulan adaption as well as Whale Rider and episodes of Anne with an E. The Mother is based on a script originally drafted by Lovecraft Country’s Misha Green and finalized by Oscar-nominated Straight Outta Compton writer Andrea Berloff.

It’s an impressive list of talents bringing this film to screen, and anytime J-Lo wants to go full action star you can guarantee we’ll be cheering for Jenny from the block.

The Mother arrives May 12 on Netflix, just in time for Mother’s Day weekend. Watch the trailer below.
