Warner Bros hired Peter Safran and James Gunn as the new co-heads to lead the franchise of movies based on DC Comics. Moving forward, Safran and Gunn will sunset the franchise known as the DC Extended Universe (DCEU) and will replace it with a new continuity called the DC Universe (DCU).
As Gunn and Safran work on establishing the so-called “Chapter One” of the DCU, pretty much every actor attached to the DCEU has been fired and the subsequent films they were going to do next have been canceled. This has impacted Henry Cavill’s Superman, Jason Momoa’s Aquaman, Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman, and even Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson’s Black Adam. In turn, Warner Bros-owned HBO Max also canceled the queer-inclusive Batgirl, a nearly-completed film, claiming that releasing the movie would’ve “hurt” the future of the franchise.
In the midst of this creative shakeup at Warner Bros and DC, Ezra Miller got involved in various controversies that have led to arrests, harassment claims, and even burglary charges. Nonetheless, Warner Bros has doubled and even tripled down on their commitment to releasing the upcoming The Flash film starring Miller, which was technically a part of the now-gone DCEU.
When asked about Miller’s future in the new DCU franchise, Safran claimed that it is all still uncertain, suggesting that it’s possible for Miller to be a part of the new franchise – unlike everyone else that appeared in the DCEU. “Ezra is completely committed to their recovery. We’re fully supportive of that journey that they’re on right now,” Safran told the press. “When the time is right, when they feel they are ready to have the discussion, we’ll all figure out what the best way forward is.” Unsurprisingly, some DC fans are completely confused when it comes to this decision-making as it relates to everything else that’s been announced by the studio.

“I’m sorry but James Gunn going to bat for the Flash movie and the heads reiterating their support for Ezra Miller AND continuing to kick Batgirl while it’s down puts a stake through the heart of me investing in any DC movies going forward.
