These new Wickedpics are wicked.

Our first photos of the highly anticipated Wicked movie adaptations are here and they are moody and mysterious. In the photos, both Ariana Grande as Glinda and Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba are centered in dark and brooding images, offering hints of the upcoming film’s aesthetic.

Director Jon Chu shared a sneak peek with two stills from the upcoming film. “You weren’t told the whole story. What happens when you veer off the Yellow Brick Road?” he wrote in the caption.

“Green & Pink. It always starts with green and pink,” he wrote in a second post.

On Twitter, Chu opened up even more about his experience of working with the two divas. “I’ve already been changed for good by these two women… #CynthiaErivo & #ArianaGrande as the Witches of Oz. They will lift your spirits, break your heart and leave you speechless with their voices. So excited to introduce you to our world… SO much more to come,” he tweeted.

For those unfamiliar, the two films are based on the hit Broadway musical, which originally starred Kristin Chenoweth and Idina Menzel and served as a prequel to the beloved Wizard of Oz, revealing the true stories of the two witches.

Last year, Chu announced on Twitter that the story would be broken up into two films explaining that they couldn't “wrestle” it into one without damaging the story.

“As we tried to cut songs or trim characters, those decisions began to feel like fatal compromises to the source material that has entertained us all for so many years,” he said

Instead, two films would offer him a “bigger canvas” and allow for the story of “Wicked” to be told, “as it was meant to be told while bringing even more depth and surprise to the journeys of these beloved characters.”

Jeff Goldblum, Bowen Yang, Keala Settle, Marissa Bode, Bronwyn James, Michelle Yeoh, Ethan Slater, and Jonathan Bailey star alongside Erivo and Grande.

Part one of Wicked arrives on November 27, 2024, followed by part two on December 25, 2025.
