A new trailer just dropped for Another Simple Favor, the highly anticipated sequel to 2018’s A Simple Favor starring Anna Kendrick and Blake Lively. And if you thought the first film was dripping with sapphic tension, well, strap in, because it looks like we just might be kicking things up a notch now that all the cards are on the table.
When A Simple Favor originally got lifted from the page and brought to life for the big screen, it felt like a queer fever dream wrapped in a campy noir mystery. Blake Lively in a three-piece suit? Anna Kendrick flustered and stammering through every scene? The film was packed with the kind of frenemy chemistry that would have had Stephanie (Kendrick) and Emily (Lively) ripping each others’ clothes off for some dangerously delicious hate sex had one of them been a dude.
As it was, the tension was still there. We saw it. We called it. And we remained seated after the unexpected announcement of a sequel rolled in.
Now, that time has come. With Another Simple Favor hitting Prime Video on May 1, it looks like director Paul Feig, writers Jessica Sharzer and Laeta Kalogridis, and this star-studded cast are leaning even harder into the chaos, couture, and chemistry. Whether Emily and Stephanie kiss (again) or simply kill each other remains to be seen, but the vibes are going hard.
While we eagerly await the full film, for now, we’ll settle for celebrating the five gayest moments in the latest trailer.

You really have to watch the trailer to get the full effect of this one, but the way Stephanie and Emily seeing one another presumably for the first time since Emily got out of prison is presented has some serious tension to it. And not just the kind that reminds us of all the bad times between them.

As hinted at by the previous item on our list, one of the things A Simple Favor did fantastically was always keep the focus on the relationship between the two women. They both had men in their lives, to a certain extent, but everything going on between Stephanie and Emily was the center.
The same is clearly true in the sequel, which means that even though a marriage proposal would normally be given a lot of weight, what clearly mattered here was Emily's proposal to Stephanie asking her to be her maid of honor. Who's even going to remember men were in this movie by the end of it? Not me, that's for sure.

The ease with which Emily referred to Stephanie by a nickname often reserved for romantic partners or children in the first movie was disarming. And thankfully, her stint in prison hasn't stripped her of that habit.

Look, we don't actually know for sure who's in this scene. Is that Lively? Is that Kendrick? Is this even a scene of two women? Honestly, can't say for sure. But it has sapphic vibes, so, you know, fingers crossed.

Emily seriously rocked menswear in the first film, and that's another thing we are t-h-r-i-l-l-e-d to see repeated here.
No matter what goes down in Another Simple Favor, we're ready to buckle up and come along for the ride. But if Stephanie wants to make a better choice and steer into her swerve towards the dark side this time...we definitely won't be mad about it.
