Troye Sivan Admitted He's Never Seen A Cher Movie And Gays Are Shook
Troye Sivan did his best to avoid trouble during a recent lie detector interview with Vanity Fair, but didn’t escape unscathed.
The “Rush” singer had a near-brush with drama during the test when the interviewer asked him whether he thinks he’s a “better actor than some other musicians who also act,” to which he initially replied, “some of them, maybe.”
But when the interviewer pulled out a photo to ask about someone in particular, it was obvious Sivan had a comparison in mind he didn’t want to publicly discuss.
“Don’t be who I—“ he started, closing his eyes.
Fortunately, when he saw Lady Gaga’s pic in front of him, it was an easy answer: “Oh, no. It’s Lady Gaga. I think she’s better than me, for sure.”
While the question of who Sivan was nervous to compare himself to remains, he was subsequently asked about another singer who acts, and his response there left fans distraught.
“I have never actually seen— uh, was she in Mamma Mia?” he asked, holding up a photo of Cher. “I don’t think I’ve ever seen a movie with Cher in it. I’ve seen like, two movies, just in general.”
While Cher was in the sequel to Mamma Mia!, Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, she also has a fairly iconic filmography, especially for someone known primarily for their even more iconic music career. Mermaids, Moonstruck, and The Witches of Eastwick are all classics in their own right, and a millennial queer (even clocking in at the tale end of the generation like Sivan) skipping out on Burlesque feels downright criminal.
There are some things you just don’t admit to, and Sivan may have learned the hard way that, at least amongst the gays, not knowing any Cher movies just might be one of them.
