Is this the final nail in the Gaylor coffin?

Taylor Swift has a message for the Gaylors and, uh, they are not going to like it.

In a new prologue for the re-released version of her groundbreaking album 1989, Taylor Swift addresses the rumors that she was in relationships with several close female friends and lets listeners know that she didn’t even have the slightest clue that her relationships would start such rumors.

Swift is releasing the re-recorded “Taylor's Version” of her popular 2014 album 1989 (the project where she officially and fully crossed over into the pop genre after years of doing country music) in a matter of hours, and Gaylors have been frantically searching her posts to see if there would be clues about her alleged secret queerness on the album. Now, it appears all hope might be lost.

“It became clear to me that for me there was no such thing as casual dating, or even having a male friend who you platonically hang out with,” Swift wrote in a new prologue for the LP. “It was assumed I was sleeping with him. And so I swore off hanging out with guys. Dating, flirting, or anything that could be weaponized against me by a culture that claimed to believe in liberating women but consistently treated me with the harsh moral codes of the Victorian Era.”

“Being a consummate optimist, I assumed I could fix this if I simply changed my behavior. I swore off dating and decided to focus only on myself, my music, my growth, and my female friendships. If I only hung out with my female friends, people couldn’t sensationalize or sexualize that right,” she continued. “I would learn later on that people could and people would.”

It’s not exactly a glowing review of the fans and listeners who speculated and continue to speculate about the singer's sexuality and her close relationship with female friends like Dianna Agron and Karlie Kloss.

It also may be the most damning evidence that Taylor is, after all, completely straight. We obviously don’t have the entire prologue to read or listen to, but based on what we have, it seems like a young Swift had no idea that two women hanging out all the time could be seen as romantic or sexual at all.

Good for Taylor to not be hung up on homophobic ideas that anyone of the same sex getting too close to each other is “gay.” And we agree that for her entire career, her relationships and private life have been unfairly judged and scrutinized. But also, we can’t help but note how impossibly straight it is to assume that no one would think you’re being romantic or sexual if you spend all your time with people of the same gender.

What’s more, Swift also does not seem to be very happy with fans who started taking her female friendships and sexualizing them. She is pretty clear that, at least at some points in her life, she spent time with mostly other women in order to avoid relationship rumors and talk about her sexuality.

We’ll have to wait until tonight to listen to the whole album and see if it really is the final nail in the Gaylor coffin.
