In July 2023, Ricky Martin announced he was getting a divorce from his long-time husband Jwan Yosef. They have two kids together, Lucia and Renn.
The couple has always kept a low profile about their relationship, and things aren’t any different now that they’re separating. Alas, Telemundo’s pop culture news show Hoy Día caught up with Yosef in the middle of the street and got a few updates about how he’s handling the divorce.
“Everything is good, we’re in a good place,” Yosef said. “It’s all [going] well.” The reporter then asked how their family is dealing with the situation. Yosef answered, “The kids are happy, and we’re happily separated.”
The Hoy Día correspondent kept pushing for more details, asking if the divorce is really happening and whether Martin or Yosef wanted to split. But Yosef just laughed and said, “Thank you very much” as he walked off.
Martin and Yosef expressed similar sentiments in the original joint statement about their divorce. However, the statement was only shared on Martin’s social media pages. “For some time, we have considered transforming our relationship,” the statement read, “and it is after careful consideration that we have decided to end our marriage with love, respect, and dignity for our children – preserving and honoring what we have experienced as a couple all of these wonderful years.”
The statement concluded, “Our greatest desire now is to continue having a healthy family dynamic and a relationship centered on our genuine friendship as we continue the joint upbringing of our children. As always, we thank you for all the love and support we received throughout our marriage. We are united in nurturing this new chapter of our lives."
For many years, Martin and Yosef were one of the most popular LGBTQ+ couples in the world. Together, they were a high-profile power couple that inspired many queer people who wanted to tie the knot with a loved one in the future.
Unfortunately, it seems like things weren’t working out for them in recent years, which resulted in the decision to file for divorce. But if this means they’ll be happier going their separate ways, then we certainly celebrate their individual peace and happiness.
We wish nothing but the best for Martin and Yosef – together or separately!
