Paris Hilton covers a lot of ground in her new memoir, and part of that involves addressing the homophobic and racist remarks she’s made over the years.

The heiress has been undergoing a rebranding of sorts starting with the release of her 2020 documentary, This Is Paris. But while her story of the abuses she says she suffered in her younger years certainly drew sympathy, some found it difficult to completely disregard the repeated instances of her saying problematic things about marginalized groups in the past.

A video from the early 2000s showed her casually using the n-word, another clip had her referring to a friend as the f-slur, and other footage featured Hilton singing a parody of “We Are Family” where she changed the lyrics to include wildly offensive antisemitic and anti-Black sentiments. Another instance had her claiming most gay men “probably have AIDS.”

These are far from the only times Hilton has been accused of saying things of this nature, although not every accusation has been verified or has video/audio to back it up.

In Paris: The Memoir, the “Stars Are Blind” singer chalked her remarks up to her experience at Provo Canyon School, where she has said she was “verbally, mentally, and physically abused on a daily basis” as a teenager.

Hilton described something at the school called “attack therapy,” where participants “went for the most obvious target in the ugliest possible language.” Now she says she believes being forced to participate in those sessions left her with a “severely damaged filter.”

“I look back on some of the things I said in the years after I left Provo, in the throes of PTSD, and I’m mortified,” she wrote. “I’m grossed out, because that means those creepy people got inside my head. I never really left them behind.”

She further said that “sometimes I fell back on that slay-or-be-slain mentality, and I’m not proud of that,” while also admitting, “sometimes I was just wasted and being a fucking moron.”

“I don’t remember half the stuff people say I said when I was being a blacked-out idiot, but I’m not denying it,” she added. “Saying I drank to dull the pain — that’s an explanation, not an excuse.”

How did Paris Hilton get rich?

Although Hilton has her own business endeavors, she also inherited money, connections, and a name from her family, who founded the Hilton chain of hotels.

How many times has Paris Hilton been engaged?

Hilton has been engaged four times, and is now married to Carter Reum.
