Nepotism has always been prevalent in Hollywood and the music business, but the term nepo baby—the child or relative of a famous person—has gained popularity in the last few years. So much so that this week Dictionary.com added the word to their site.
There is no denying that nepo babies like Timothée Chalamet, Dan Levy, Maya Hawke and Robert Downey Jr. are incredibly talented, but some are skating by on name alone. Plus, as the wealth desperately in this country continues to grow every year, more and more people are starting to realize that knowing someone in Hollywood (and coming from wealth) is a huge leg up in town that is notoriously hard to break into.
