And how it shaped the way she faces trauma now.

While it's been years since the marriage ended Miley Cyrus is opening up about the moment she knew she and then-husband Liam Hemsworth were not meant to be.

Cyrus opened up about that moment during a TikTok post on Wednesday. The epiphany happened while the singer was at the Glastonbury music festival in June 2019

“Glastonbury was in June,” Cyrus said in the TikTok, “which was when the decision had been made.”

“So I just want to slow down... because this is actually serious,” she began.

“Me and Liam’s commitment to being married, of course, came from a place of love first because we had been together for 10 years, but also from a place of trauma and just trying to rebuild as quickly as we could,” the singer-songwriter said.

“The day of the [Glastonbury] show was the day I had decided it was no longer going to work in my life to be in that relationship.”

“That was another moment where the work, the performance, the character came first,” she added. “I guess that’s why it’s now so important to me for that not to be the case — that the human comes first.”

In the next video, she continued to explain how in the face of trauma, whether it be the loss of a family member, her house burning down in the 2018 California wildfires, or the end of her marriage her refuge has always been her work.

In August 2019 Hemsworth filed for divorce and the couple reached a settlement early the next year.

While that story is a sad one she also opened up about how it all began on the set of the film The Last Song, “I think one of the elements that made that movie feel so special was it was watching two very young people fall in love with each other, which was happening in real time and real life,” she revealed. “So, the chemistry was undeniable and that was the beginning of a long, 10-year relationship.”
