Matty Healy is under fire once again after making what appears to be a poor attempt at a joke.

On Thursday, Healy, for some reason, decided to tweet “I told Lucy Dacus that ‘Boygenius’ had inspired me and George to start a new band called ‘Girlr*tard’. I don’t really hear from her that often.”

The 1975 singer had been friends with Dacus’s boygenius bandmate, Phoebe Bridgers, for years, although it’s unclear if their friendship continued after his brief rumored tryst with Taylor Swift earlier this year. He had traveled to spend time with Bridgers and Swift during The Eras Tour, although the rumors that he and Swift were dating ultimately wound up shining a spotlight on a number of things he had said and done in the past that were simply not a good look.

Regardless of his friendship status with Bridgers, it’s pretty clear that Dacus isn’t interested in putting up with Healy and his disrespectful “humor.”

Shortly after his initial tweet, Dacus retweeted him, writing, “you don’t hear from me at all.”

The backlash was so immediate and overwhelming that thin-skinned Healy decided to deactivate his Twitter in response.

The simple move earned Dacus praise while people continued to call out Healy for using a slur.

It would be awesome if Healy decided to use this time away from the internet to do some self-reflection, but if we’re being honest, that seems unlikely to be part of his trajectory anytime soon.
