Twirl on this!
Kenya Moore is the latest housewife to sit down with Carlos King on his podcast Reality with The King.
In part one of their interview, the star revealed plenty of shocking details about her childhood, her marriage, and how she ended up getting cast on The Real Housewives of Atlanta.
Check out the most shocking revelations from the interview below!
1. Her Relationship With Her Mother
Fans of RHOA know that Moore has struggled building a relationship with her mother ever since she was a little girl.
Her mother had Moore when she was a teenager and completely rejected her shortly after her birth. Moore's grandmother, Doris Grant, raised her and was seen on RHOA before her passing in 2017.
However, fans were shocked to hear that Moore's mother not only denied her role as her parent, but she also actively tried to ruin Moore's reputation as she started winning beauty pageants at a young age.
"My mother was calling the pageant director and was telling her I was an alcoholic, I was dating this older man, I was all these horrible things and I should not be her beauty queen. She tried to get my crown taken away. There was a history of her literally trying to destroy me. That was her mission," Moore said.
2. She Wasn't Paid When She Initially Joined 'RHOA'
Although she came onto the scene strong, Moore wasn't an official housewife until she attended NeNe Leakes' “Women In Success” event.
Prior to Leakes' event, the reality star filmed for a month straight without any official status and without any compensation.
Moore eventually told production that she would refuse working for free and gave them an ultimatum once they asked her to film one more scene.
“I'm not going to be working for free. They begged me [for] one more scene. I remember saying, 'If I shoot this scene and you don’t make me a housewife, you cannot use me for anything else. You cannot use any of my footage.' They agreed to it and made me a housewife after."
3. 'RHOA's Season 5 Strike Over Kim Zolciak
During season five of RHOA, Kim Zolciak left the show. Prior to her storming off from a lunch and shoving the camera, Zolciak would skip group trips, events, and other filming commitments.
The other RHOA members of the cast (NeNe Leakes, Phaedra Parks, Cynthia Bailey, and Kandi Burruss) were fed up with the preferential treatment Zolciak was receiving from production, so the ladies went on strike for a week.
Once Zolciak walked off the show, production scrambled to find someone new to cast, which eventually led to Porsha Williams (then Porsha Stewart) joining the show.
"The casting was closed. They cast Porsha after Kim walked off. Porsha was the replacement housewife. No shade to Porsha! I'm just saying what happened. When she walked off, that opened up the casting again. That's how that happened."
Also, Moore had to see a therapist while season five was airing after hearing the negative things said about her on the show, mainly by Phaedra Parks.
The star even considered not returning to the show, until Carlos King begged her to come back for season six.
4. Her Current Issues With 'RHOA' Production
During her first four seasons on RHOA, Moore had the first seat next to Andy Cohen at every reunion. Since then, she's only sat next to Cohen one other time at a reunion (season 13).
At every other reunion she's attended, Moore had the second or third seat besides the season 12 reunion, which was filmed virtually due to COVID-19.
"Don't tell me it's about story. It's not about story. It's about who are the leads of the show. NeNe did not have story for three seasons. They would never move NeNe's seat. That is a fact. I felt so disrespected knowing what I have put into this franchise. You should never move my seat."
5. Her Marriage & Divorce With Marc Daly
The final bombshell came from her private marriage to her former husband, Marc Daly.
Moore believes production punished her for marrying Daly off camera and hiding her relationship from the show. She was even denied a spin-off she pitched to the network about her journey as a mother to her daughter, Brooklyn.
"If I bring a man on this show, it's like the kiss of death. I needed to have a family before I needed the show, which is why I can always walk away. I don't feel that my time on this show has been as valued as it should be. Where are my spin-offs? When I was at the height of my time on this show and I wanted a spin-off with my child, I was denied that. That should have never happened."
