Everyone loves a bad boy.

Fire Island star James Scully shared that he had a crush on his former You co-star Penn Badgley and, honestly, same.

On You, Badgley plays Joe Goldberg, a serial killer who for three seasons (the show’s fourth season debuts February 10 on Netflix) has stalked and killed many a paramour and any rival who stood in the way of his quest for “love” — hey, sometimes the heart wants what it wants. And for Scully, who played Forty Quinn in season two of the series, his heart was all about Badgley during filming.

“I spent many days with him for six months, and every time I walked into the hair and makeup trailer and saw him, I would just sigh wistfully to myself,” the actor confessed to Page Six at the Gotham Awards. Relatable. “So, I get it,” he added. “I understand.”

While he was naturally drawn to the dreamy actor, he was also quick to point out that those crushing on Joe are missing the point and something Badgley himself has spoken about. “I just felt bad for Penn because he was like, ‘That’s sort of supposed to be the opposite,’” Scully explained. “He’s doing all this work and I think he’s very conscious of the example he’s setting for young men. He’s sort of eager to clarify that this is the way you shouldn’t behave.”

While the character of Joe is absolutely bad news, Badgley’s natural charisma and likability make him the perfect person to bring the role to life. “That’s why they hired him,” said Scully. “This person can sell us.”

While everyone loves a bad boy, Joe Goldberg is a step too far. Badgley himself, though? Crush away!
