In the latest chapter of the seemingly neverending Ezra Miller saga, the actor has pled not guilty to felony burglary charges that could see them spending over two decades in jail.
The actor was arrested for allegedly stealing bottles of liquor from a Vermont home while the owner was on vacation back in May. Surveillance footage and interviews with other neighbors are what led to Miller’s arrest, and they have defended their actions by saying they were just looking for ingredients for a recipe for their mother.
This is the latest in a long, long line of incidents that have seen Miller arrested or otherwise facing intense scrutiny over their actions, starting with video of them choking a fan that went viral back in 2020.
But 2022 has seen a wild increase in incidents, from Miller allegedly harassing people singing karaoke, having several restraining orders taken out against them, and being accused of grooming a teenager.
Amidst all of this, Warner Bros. has declined to yank the upcoming but frequently delayed The Flash, in which Miller plays the titular hero. In fact, earlier this month, The Wrap reported that the actor had recently shot a day of pickups for the film.
Considering Warner Bros. has been quick to cancel or erase inclusive movies and television shows in the wake of their merger with Discovery, allegedly for tax breaks, the fact that The Flash seems to be moving full speed ahead has become particularly contentious.
“That is a clear example of the lengths that Hollywood will go to to save itself and to protect offenders," Issa Rae recently said, condemning the studio’s protection of Miller. “So, don’t do that, and women may be able to thrive. They won’t have to live in fear of keeping silent because it’ll ruin their careers. It’s just a constant pattern of abuse that’ll only persist if Hollywood continues to insist on being this way.”
If Miller is convicted, they face up to 26 years in prison.
Meanwhile, The Flash is still slated for release July 2023.
