Oh Emily, No!

We love Emily Hampshire, but this... this was not the look.
The out actress is likely best known for playing Stevie on Schitt’s Creek and Jennifer on 12 Monkeys, Emily Hampshire shared an Instagram picture on Tuesday, October 31 showing her and a friend dressed up as Johnny Depp and Amber Heard. “Happy Halloween,” the caption read.
These “Halloween costumes” were incredibly specific, depicting Depp and Heard in the clothes they wore during the heart-wrenching trial that ended up in Depp winning against Heard in a defamation suit. Since then, the actor has staged a comeback at the Cannes Film Festival, while the actress is seemingly being blacklisted within Hollywood.
In the picture shared on her official Instagram profile, Hampshire is seen dressed up as Depp (tattoos and goatee included) and holding a poop next to Heard, who is depicted “crying.” After criticism popped up in the comments section – and screenshots were taken – Hampshire quickly deleted the post.
On Thursday, November 2, Hampshire shared a new Instagram post, this time apologizing for the Depp-Heard costumes she wore for Halloween. The Schitt’s Creek star wrote:
“I want to address what is one of the most thoughtless, insensitive, and ignorant things I’ve ever done. For Halloween, I stupidly thought it would be funny to dress as Johnny Depp and Amber Heard. I am deeply sorry and ashamed for putting something that awful out in the universe. Domestic abuse is never, ever funny. These are real issues with real people and I REALLY regret my actions. In the future, I will do better. I’m so sorry.”
As of this writing, Hampshire’s apology post has nearly 30,000 likes. However, the actress disabled the comments section.
We hope this is a teaching moment not only for celebrities, but for people from all walks of life, that domestic violence isn’t really a funny costume idea for Halloween.
C’mon, folx. We can do so much better than this.
