Best known for appearing on her family’s reality series Chrisley Knows Best, Savannah Chrisley hosts a podcast titled Unlocked, where she recently sat down with The Bachelor season 23 lead Colton Underwood.
On the podcast’s latest episode, Chrisley brought up the fact that she had gone on a date with Underwood back in 2017 during the ACM Awards. For reference, this was before he had even made his reality TV debut on season 14 of The Bachelorette (which aired in 2018).
“When we met the first time, I knew you were gay. Like, I knew it,” Chrisley told Underwood during the interview, noting that they had “no connection whatsoever” on the date. Underwood joked back: “For obvious reasons.”
“When I say, ‘It’s not you, it’s me,’ I truly mean that,” the Bachelor star added. “And obviously I’ve proven that at this point.”
The podcast host also recalled a chat she had with a friend, Emily, where she speculated about Underwood’s sexuality. Chrisley explained, “I remember looking at Emily, and I was like, ‘He’s totally gay.’ She was like, ‘No he’s not, Savannah.’”
Underwood officially came out as gay in 2021. His coming-out journey became a docuseries, Coming Out Colton, which streamed on Netflix. In September 2021, the former Bachelor star reportedly started to date political strategist Jordan C. Brown. A few months later, in February 2022, Underwood and Brown announced that they had gotten engaged.
To be fair, it could’ve been completely possible for Underwood and Chrisley to “have no connection” after a date regardless of his sexuality, which makes her assumption at the time a little precipitated. In hindsight, though, her gaydar turned out to be fully functioning on that day, indeed.
In any case, it’s great to see that Underwood and the women he dated can now share a laugh about their experiences prior to him coming out.
