Sydney Sweeney wants fans to stop sending her family screenshots of her nude scenes.
That’s apparently been an ongoing problem for the Euphoria actress, who recently spoke with GQ about the issues she’s faced with some people trying to shame her for stripping down in the show.
Specifically, Sweeney referenced a season one scene where her character, Cassie, deals with her peers circulating nude videos of her around school. Apparently online trolls have found it funny, even years later, to upload photos from the scene and direct them at her family members.
“It got to the point where they were tagging my family. My cousins don’t need that. It’s completely disgusting and unfair,” she said.
The actress drew parallels to the scene itself, noting that “you have a character that goes through the scrutiny of being a sexualized person at school and then an audience that does the same thing.”
Sweeney spoke about her family several times throughout the interview, including revisiting the backlash she received after photos of guests wearing MAGA gear at the birthday party she threw for her mother this summer circulated online.
At the time, she hit back at critics with frustration that “an innocent celebration” had somehow been turned into “an absurd political statement” by people making assumptions about her and her family.
Now, it still seems like something she’d much rather just leave in the past.
“Honestly I feel like nothing I say can help the conversation,” she told GQ. “It’s been turning into a wildfire and nothing I can say will take it back to the correct track.”
