As a site that features entertainment and news geared toward the lesbian community at large we are committed to highlighting artists, musicians and craftspeople in the community. This week we would like to introduce you to UK-based author, playwright and radio show host Ellen Dean.
Ellen hasn’t always been a writer. She spent many years of her working life in the medical profession where she culled ideas to create some of the characters for her first novelBeautiful Strangers, which features the beautiful and bewitching lesbian gynecologist Hyacinth Dickinson, and Beth McConnell, a talented surgeon who, until she met Hyacinth, suppressed her attraction to women and blocked her scary psychic visions.
Needless to say, Ellen was thrilled when Beautiful Strangers reached number 1 in Amazon’s Top 100 Best Seller List in August 2010.
She is currently writing Beyond Midnight, a Beautiful Strangers sequel, as well as writing a book entitled The Director, about an amateur dramatic society. Both will be published by Colbere Publishing www.colberepublishing.co.uk <https://www.colberepublishing.co.uk>
The idea for The Director came to her while directing Ding Dong, a French comedy, for her local am dram society. Ding Dong was performed this past November in Masham, North Yorkshire, England. Details on her website www.ellendean.co.uk.
Ellen personally enjoys treading the boards. In 2004, she set up a local pantomime society -- which is still going strong -- and played Baroness Hardup in Cinderalle for its first production. She’s played Columbia in a Rocky Horror spoof performing some spectacular tap dancing, and played the housekeeper in Wuthering Heights. Ellen is looking to take a play to the 2011 Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
And if writing and theater weren’t enough, Ellen presents a weekly show on Durham Dales Radio, an Internet-based radio station. The Ellen Dean Show airs Saturdays from 8-10pm GMT. She plays all genres of music and supports Indie artists by playing their music whenever she can. She happily plays listeners’ requests.
Ellen is a conservationist and encourages everyone to do their bit for Mother Earth and actively supports our endangered orangutans.
