Rosie O’Donnell is joining the ranks of women’s programming on satellite radio with a new show on Sirius XM Radio, Sirius said.
Broadcast Monday through Friday from 7-9 a.m. Pacific (10 a.m. to noon Eastern), the two-hour talk show will take advantage of O’Donnell’s comedic talents and include a cadre of celebrity guests and have an “ensemble feel,” the satellite radio firm said.
“This is an exciting new adventure — two hours of talk show entertainment, without having to wear makeup. Perfection,” O’Donnell said in a statement. “I can’t wait to jumpstart each day with millions of Sirius XM listeners across the country.”
O’Donnell joins other Sirius offerings for the LGBT community that includes OutQ, as well as such programming for women as Oprah Winfrey and Martha Stewart stations.
The listener call-in show will also feature “everyday Americans” discussing current events, pop culture, humor and politics.
The former talk show host has been vocal about the country’s foster care system, recently writing, producing and staring in America, a Lifetime telefilm about the subject based on the book by E.R. Frank that aired this year.
The former host of The View and Emmy winner for The Rosie O’Donnell Show came out in 2002 after guest starring on an episode of Will & Grace in which she played a lesbian mom. The foster and adoptive mother also continues to support adoption issues within the LGBT community.
The news- and entertainment-based “Rosie Radio” will launch in the fall.
