Peace Activist Cindy Sheehan Says DADT Repeal Is A Step Backward
Peace activist Cindy Sheehan writes that the allowing gay people to serve openly is not a true human rights advance, given the reality of the U.S. military, “one of the least socially responsible organizations that exists on earth.” Sheehan articulated her position in an op-ed last month for Al Jazeera, where she advised, “Don’t go, don’t kill!” She wrote “I can see how one could view the repeal as a step forward, framed in the context dictated by the political elites of the Washington beltway.” Adding “I can imagine much displeasure amongst the military brass — but I cannot reiterate enough how this is not a progressive moment in the social history of the United States.”
