Oscar nominations 2010 were announced early Tuesday morning in Los Angeles and it looks as if Award season is officially underway.

The nominations for the 82nd Academy Awards came with a few shocks as Kathryn Bigelow's The Hurt Locker joins Avatar in leading the Academy Award pack with nine nods each.

The 2010 Oscar nominees for Best Actress are Sandra Bullock, Helen Mirren, Carey Mulligan, Gabourey Sidibe and the incomparable Meryl Streep, of course. Fans of Mariah Carey could feel betrayed when they find the singer was left off the list.

In a surprise, however, Best Supporting Actress Maggie Gyllenhaal was nominated for Crazy Heart, joining Penelope Cruz, Vera Farmiga, Anna Kendrick and Mo'Nique.

Several films that were expected to earn nominations were included. Avatar, The Hurt Locker, Inglourious Basterds, Precious, The Blind Side, Up In The Air and Up got in as expected. The Academy included small films like An Education and A Serious Man. With the musical Nine only earning a nod for Cruz, the film itself got snubbed.

Best Actor nominees were Jeff Bridges, George Clooney, Colin Firth, Morgan Freeman and Jeremy Renner, all which have been projected.

For Best Supporting Actor, Christoph Waltz, Matt Damon, Woody Harrelson, Christopher Plummer and Stanley Tucci.

The nominationshad one surprise for Best Director as Precious' Lee Daniels got in over Clint Eastwood for the final spot, joining James Cameron, Kathryn Bigelow, Quentin Tarantino and Jason Reitman.
