Olympic Skater Johnny Weir Tackles Homophobic Remarks

Figure skater Johnny Weir is known for his Olympic fashion flair and beautifully soaring effortlessly over the ice and placing fifth in the Vancouver Olympic games. Access Hollywood's Dorothy Hamill sat down with Weir. Canadian broadcasters, Claude Mailhot and Alain Goldberg, went after Weir on the air. "Every little boy should be so lucky as to turn into me," Weir told Hamill. Now, no one will get to see Lady Gaga!

Access Hollywood's guest correspondent Dorothy Hamill sat down with Weir at in Vancouver, where the skater admitted winning a medal was going to be tough.

"Not because I wasn't good enough, just that politically, no one was thinking of me that way," he said.

However, the same flair and flamboyance that makes fans around the world admire and adore the skater, also makes him a target for homophobic remarks. Two Canadian broadcasters, Claude Mailhot and Alain Goldberg of the RDS network, even went after Weir on the air. Hamill read him their quotes.

"They think all the boys that skate will end up like him," a visibly upset Hamill said.

"'We should make him pass a gender test at this point,'" she read, getting visibly upset. "What do you think of that?"

"Every little boy should be so lucky as to turn into me," Weir told Hamill. "And that's all I have to say about that."

The Quebec Council of Gays and Lesbians filed a complaint against sportscasters Mailhot and Goldberg over the weekend for their comments.

Weir placed sixth in last week's long form program. Had he placed fifth, he would have skated to Lady Gaga's "Poker Face" in the post-competition gala this Saturday. Gaga had promised Weir she would attend.

So, due to homophobic remarks, none of us will get to see Lady Gaga appear at the Olympic games or see Weir skate to her music. Super.
