Because nothing says Independence Day like a layered adult beverage!

rachiepants

It’s that time of year again. Time to fly those flags, fire up those BBQs, grab your best seasonal speedo, and gather with friends for some drinks.

No, we aren’t talking about PRIDE; that was last month. It’s Independence Day!

While the straights might be guzzling down their Bomb Pop cocktails, layered American flag-colored drinks similar to the Bomb Pop popsicle, the gays can have their own twist on the holiday tradition.

In other words, keep the layers but introduce a few more jeweled-toned colors, with a rainbow, Bomb Pop-inspired cocktail.

Rainbow on the rocks

For a classic cocktail in hurricane glass, try out Sunny Sweet Days’Rainbow Paradise Cocktail.

What you’ll need:

  • 4 oz pineapple juice
  • 2 oz white or coconut rum
  • 1 oz water
  • 1 oz grenadine
  • 1 oz blue curacao
  • Ice
  • Hurricane glass

For a layered drink that will keep its consistency you can’t just throw everything in the glass, it will take a little extra prep.

  1. Add grenadine to the glass
  2. Fill the glass with ice
  3. Measure out all of the rest of your ingredients with a shot glass
  4. Mix pineapple and rum in a separate glass.
  5. In an additional glass mix water and blue curacao
  6. Pour the pineapple juice & rum mixture into the hurricane glass
  7. Pur the blue curacao mixture on top slowly, using a spoon

Rainbow in a shot

Do you prefer your drinks in short form? Try Tipsy Bartender’s Rainbow Shots instead.

What you’ll need:

  • 1 oz Coconut rum
  • .5 oz blue raspberry vodka
  • 1 oz pineapple juice
  • 1 splash grenadine
  • Shot glasses
  • Bar tools

Once again a layered shot like this takes a little extra time and care, so follow the instructions carefully.

  1. In an ice-filled glass combine coconut rum and pineapple juice
  2. Shake well
  3. Strain mix three-quarters of the way into a shot glass
  4. Drizzle grenadine into the base of the glass
  5. Float blue raspberry vodka on top

Or keep it traditional

Maybe you prefer to celebrate with a more traditional cocktail. Well, in that case you can’t go wrong with the original Bomb Pop from Tasty Travelers.

What you’ll need:

  • 1 12-ounce bottle of Mike's Hard Lemonade
  • 2 ounces Blue Raspberry Vodka
  • 2 ounces Grenadine
  • 2 Mini Bomb Pop popsicles
  • 2 cups of Ice

Assembling a Bomb Pop can be a bit tricky, but with practice, you’ll have it in no time.

  1. Pour one ounce of grenadine into a tall glass.
  2. Fill the glass with ice
  3. Pour half the bottle of Mike’s Hard Lemonade, leaving 1 inch at the top of the glass empty.
  4. Carefully add the blue raspberry vodka slowly by pouring it over a spoon.

Drink responsibly and happy Fourth of July!
