It’s been a big day for Ellen Page! Earlier today it was announced that Page’s passion project, the lesbian-themed Freeheld was moving forward with Julianne Moore starring opposite her. And tonight Page came out at the Time to Thrive conference for LGBT youth in Las Vegas. “I’m here because I’m gay,” Page said, according to Variety.

Lesbian rumors have swirled around Page, 26, since her breakthrough role in Juno, so much so that she parodied herself as a "sexy lesbian" when she hosted Saturday Night Live several years ago.

Page, who is starring in the upcoming X-Men: Days of Future Past also said in her speech that she felt a personal obligation and a social responsibility to be honest, Variety reported.

“Maybe I can help others to have an easier time. I am tired of hiding, and I'm tired of lying by omission, Page said. "I suffered for years because I was scared to be out. My spirit suffered, my mental health suffered, and my relationships suffered. And I'm standing here today with all of you on the other side of that pain."
