While Blue Is the Warmest Color, the epic story of nascent lesbian love from France, failed to nab Oscar nominations yesterday, it won big at the Critics Choice Awards Thursday in Los Angeles.
Abdellatif Kechiche's Blue, the Palme D’Or winner at Cannes last year, beat out the recent Golden Globe winner The Great Beauty for Best Foreign Language film, while the film’s young star Adèle Exarchopoulos took home the award for Best Young Actor/Actress.
Adèle, who was in nearly every shot of the 3-hour-long film that paired her off with actress Léa Seydoux in both love and war, appeared surprised that she’d won the award. She took the podium to accept her award noting that she was actually too young to celebrate with a drink here in America (not so in her native France).
Here she is at the Awards!
