According to the Derby Dolls :
Since 2003, the Los Angeles Derby Dolls have been a mainstay of LA culture, and perhaps for just as long, a supportive piece and ally of the LGBTQIA+ community. Full of alternative looks and points of view, the broader derby community has long been a place where queer people could find acceptance and flourish. The Derby Dolls are no different, embracing their own gender bylaws and commitment to building a space where all are welcome. From volunteers and fans to league members and skaters, if you identify as trans+, intersex, gender expansive, non-binary - or just not cisgender - the Derby Dolls have space for you.
Nothing showcases the league's incredible spirit better than the July Babydoll Brawl. With special First Whistle Guest stand-up comic Cameron Esposito kicking things off, the league's newest adult skaters battled it out on the banked track with family and friends cheering them on. While these tough skaters are already making their mark as tried and true athletes, they're also ready to serve as role models for young queer folks (or anyone looking for guidance and connection). At a time when there are those trying to force the LGBTQIA+ community into smaller and smaller spaces, the Derby Dolls are hitting back and reminding the world that they will always be a place in Los Angeles that celebrates diversity and acceptance.
