Thailand is on track to become the first Southeast Asian country to legalize marriage equality after the kingdom’s Senate approved a marriage equality bill on Tuesday.
Supporters called the passage a “monumental step forward for LGBTQ+ rights,” CNN reports.
Only four senators opposed the bill with 130 supporting it. The Prime Minister even participated in the parade on June 1.
The newly passed bill needs the endorsement from the king before it is truly official in Thailand. However, CNN notes that this is really only a formality.
Thailand is also the third Asian country to pass marriage equality. Nepal did so last year, and Taiwan did in 2019.
Below, check out images from this year's Pride Parade in Bangkok, which occurred earlier this month. Can't you feel the LGBTQ+ joy radiating?
