How Would the 'Hairspray Live!' Characters Act In Trump's America?

How would the characters portrayed by Ariana Grande and other Hairspray Live! stars be acting in Trump's America? PRIDE finds out!

It's no secret that this year's Presidential election was a highly contentious one, and following Donald Trump's victory, many people in the country have been feeling divided on many issues.

That's where NBC's Hairspray Live! comes into play. Although the original film by John Waters (and starring drag icon Divine) was made in the '80s and takes place in the '60s, many of the themes, especially those about racial integration and inclusion, are still relevant to this day.

PRIDE got the chance to talk to the Hairspray Live! stars, including Ariana Grande and Jennifer Hudson, at a recent event in preparation for tonight's big premiere, and we asked an important question: if your character was alive today in Trump's America, how do you think they would be acting and what would they be doing?

PRIDE also got the chance to talk to the stars about what it was like filming a live, televised version of a musical, how fun it was being in such a big production, and why the overall messages of Hairspray Live! are so important.

Catch the premiere of Hairspray Live! tonight at 8/7c on NBC!
