Here’s our idea of a perfect summer evening: a softball game coached by Geena Davis and Rosie O’Donnell of
A League of Their Own, followed by a screening of that landmark movie. Oh, and it’d be cool if some
celebrities like singer Sara Evans and Olympic medalist Jennie Finch were there, too.
Wait… that just happened.
On Thursday, O’Donnell and Davis met with sisters Gina Casey and Alice Fracasso (85 and 90 years old respectively), who have been members of the All American Girls Professional Baseball League since the very beginning. These two ladies were amongst the pioneers of women’s baseball who established the league that inspired A League of Their Own. Two of the movie’s stars coached teams pitted against one another to benefit Davis's Bentonville Film Festival, which celebrates women and diversity in film.
When you’re checking out these adorable, nostalgic photos, remember: there’s no crying in baseball.
