The funny women and friends shared several hilarious moments over the years.

It’s been over a week since the legendary writer and actress Carrie Fisher died of a heart attack two days after Christmas, and the collective mourning is only beginning. Carrie’s long-time friend Ellen DeGeneres returned to her show this week with a loving tribute to the star who’s beloved by millions for her role as Princess Leia in Star Wars.

Over the years, Carrie has appeared on Ellen’s show several times. Her most recent appearance was just a month ago.

Toward the end of her show today Ellen told the audience, “Before I go, I want to say something about my friend Carrie Fisher… I loved when she was here. She made me laugh so hard. She was smart. She was funny. She was hilariously about herself and the world around her.” A montage of Carrie’s guest appearances on Ellen followed.

The clips include Carrie discussing her famous mother Debbie Reynolds (who died of a stroke the day after Carrie passed), offering hilarious, self-aware advice to an audience member, and donning Princess Leia buns and stopping motorists with Ellen outside Warner Bros. in Burbank, Calif. to offer them tickets to The Force Awakens when it was released.

From the scenes of Carrie and Ellen together, it’s clear they made a great team, although it was Carrie’s sister Joely Fisher who starred as Ellen’s best friend Paige on the now iconic sitcom Ellen.

Watch Ellen’s tribute below.

This little waltz chokes us up every time.
