RuPaul's Drag Racehas infiltrated ballroom.
On Saturday night, ballroom's much-awaited Coldest Winter Ever Part 4 Ball, put on by the Icon Sinia Alaia and the production company Ballroom Throwbacks. Ballroom Throwbacks is most known for helping to popularize the ballroom scene over the past decade by uploading clips and video of competitions as well as interview to YouTube.
After being pushed back multiple times as a result of the ongoing global pandemic, members of the scene turned out for over eight hours of competition in New York City. Of the categories was Return of "The ICE Queen" for female figure face. With $2,000 up for grabs, contestants were asked to bring it in an icy look.
"Your stone-cold beauty, attitude, and realness are unmatched!" the category description trumpeted.
Of the subcategories, Olivia Lux Miyake-Mugler came out for Drags face, walked out about Mugler New York City mother Naja Miyake-Mugler and Mugler overall mother Exotic Miyake-Mugler. Lux had made her debut in ballroom in 2021.
A few subcategories later, the Icon Mariah Paris Balenciaga also walked for her tens.
The category was a hot one with the likes of Legendary Courtney Balenciaga as well as Jazelle Barbie Royale Tisci (many know her for winning Miss International Queen and an often-viral performance to CeCe Peniston's "He Luvs Me Too") and more walking. After winning four battles straight, Lux faced off against Balenciaga. At one point, the pair's arms intertwined as if choreographed — ballroom magic. (The emcee Jack Mizrahi Gucci mistakenly identified Lux as Chi Chi Devayne who died in 2020.)
Balenciaga won the battle.
They are only two Drag Race alum who walk balls. Akeria Chanel Davenport has also walked as well as Aja.
