While Shangela was just recently robbed of winning the crown on RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars 3, the unstoppable queen is still going on to bigger and better things—like starring alongside Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper in a feature film!
In a recent interview with Billboard Magazine, Shangela reveals that she plays Lady Gaga’s drag mother in the upcoming remake of A Star is Born, which will be Bradley Cooper’s directorial debut.
"I’m in drag, I’m kind of Lady Gaga’s drag mother, a bar owner," she said. "I can’t give much more away than that. But it’s gonna be really fun, it’s not a giant role but it’s a good role that’s memorable. I’ve heard from a lot of people on the team I’m going to be very happy."
She also discussed what it was like working with Mother Monster herself:
"When you look up to someone, idolize them, and their journey and experience and how they work, and then you get to work with them and see they’re everything you dreamed. And she was everything I had ever dreamed she would be. Professional, kind, funny."
A Star Is Born is one of the most remade films in Hollywood, with the 1976 version starring none other than the legendary Barbra Streisand. The film centers around a man named John Norman Howard, a rock star in decline who falls in love with a woman named Esther Hoffman, a talented but unknown musician who he discovered one night while in an unknown nightclub. The two start dating and John helps boost Esther’s career. But even as Esther begins to see fame, John continues his downward spiral.
