Willam Belli is no stranger to the media, but this month, he ventured into uncharted territory — publishing. The infamous drag queen's new book, Suck Less: Where There's a Willam, There's a Way hit shelves October 18 and is already an Amazon bestseller.
We asked Willam a few questions about the release and, as you might expect, Willam didn't disappoint.
PRIDE: What inspired you to write Suck Less: When There’s a Willam, There’s a Way?
WILLAM: Helping NPH [Neil Patrick Harris] out with his drag for Hedwig inspired me to write Suck Less.
What do you think of the All Stars 2 winner?
I think the All Stars 2 winner didn’t need a crown to prove that she is a star but to each their own.
Would you appear again on Drag Race?
I imagine if they have a mini challenge in which the contestants light bridges on fire, I may guest judge.
Who are you trying to help with your book?
I’m trying to help anyone who buys it. There’s drug-laden recipes, hacks on criminal activities, sex tips, gossip. It’s like brunch but in 224 pages of Times New Roman faggoty font.
What's the one thing gay men can do to "suck less" in bed?
Put on some music. Aaliyah is great for blowjobs.
What's your relationship with Neil Patrick Harris? He wrote the forward to your book, right?
Neil wrote my foreword, yeah. A mutual friend of ours sent me a video of him impersonating me during my season of RDR [RuPaul's Drag Race] and we been friends since then. When Hedwig came around, he hit me up to assist in getting him ready. His husband David is also one of the best guys to party with, I know.
Would you consider playing Hedwig? If so, what would you bring to the iconic role?
I would love to do the Hedwig role, but the show needs a name to keep it open in any kind of big theater and I lack that star power. It’s not worth talking about hypotheticals.
What is a drag coach and what was it like being Neil Patrick Harris'?
I taught him how to tuck, and then taught him again when he didn’t understand via password-protected Vimeo tutorials. We had walking sessions and movement classes. We hung out and shoplifted … y’know, typical Trahnz stuff.
Before you, was Neil Patrick Harris bad in drag? Did you make him "suck less"?
Detox, who helped me do his makeup the first time, compared it to the scene where the grooming coach in A League of Their Own goes down the line, commenting (“Yes, yes, lovely ...”) and then goes to Marla Hooch and asked what she recommended. “A lot of night games,” was the reply. But his hair and makeup team turned him out good. Perfidia and Mike Potter are gods in my eyes.
If you need some help "sucking less," make sure to pick up Willam's new book, out now!
