He has a new stage name, too.

The artist formerly known as Christine and the Queens is now officially, Christine and the Queens presents Redcar.

The French singer took to TikTok to share the news about his gender identity, new pronouns, and new professional moniker, in light of his upcoming album, Redcar les adorables étoiles.

In the three-minute video posted to TikTok, Chris talked about his journey in gender presentation. “I’ve been a man for a year now – a little more officially in my family and in my relationship. It is a long process,” he said in the English translation.

During this time, Chris shared that he changed his pronouns to he/him across his social media as a way to express his new identity. He added that “Redcar” references his poetry, and his new stage name attributes to the “poetry and philosophy that helps [him] be successful.”

This isn't the first time that Chris has opened up about his gender journey. This past March, the 34-year-old told The New York Times, “I kind of want to tear down that system that made us label genders in such a strict way.”

Identifying as pansexual to BBC in 2016, Chris has also been at the forefront of going against the gender norms. “It means that I can fall in love with someone regardless of their gender.” Seeing love as love, he expressed that he does not view gender as “an obstacle” or “a definition.”

He continued by saying, “I’m just trying to escape any labels there because I can fall in love with a man who defines herself as a woman, for example. I can fall in love with a man that decides she is going to become a woman and then what does that make me?”

Chris is not the only singer who has been open about changing pronouns in the public eye. Identifying as nonbinary, Demi Lovato recently shared that they have been feeling more feminine recently and have started adopting she/her along with they/them pronouns.

Christine and the Queens presents Redcar’s new album is slated to drop on September 23.
