A Sister Wives star just shared the latest step in their journey towards being themselves — coming out as trans.
Leon Brown opened up about identity in a recent Instagram post, after coming to the realization that “i didn’t have to have all of my shit figured out in order for me to share myself with the world.”
“so here’s me, definitely not having almost any of my shit figured out, to let you know that i am trans. my name is Leon or Leo (i love both) and my pronouns are they/them,” they wrote.
The reality star spent their teen years in front of a camera on TLC’s Sister Wives, a show about polygamy, and initially came out as gay in 2017. Their mother, Meri, was the first wife of patriarch Kody Brown, although they divorced in 2014 so he could legally marry one of his other wives.
In their post, Leon also spoke about growing up “in a context that was incredibly gendered & restrictive,” which played a role in not coming out as trans despite noting that they knew from a young age that they were not a girl.
“being queer & trans are definitely some of my favorite parts of myself. and yet, there are so many things that i am learning to love about myself through this process,” they added. “here’s to me getting to know myself, share myself, and continually evolve to be the person i am, to be my favorite self in all contexts.”
They received public support from Meri, who reposted their Instagram on her own page, writing, “you are my sunshine.”
Leon’s partner, Audrey Kriss, also offered positive words on their post: “Love you so much and so proud of you.” The two got engaged in 2019 and Audrey has previously spoken about their own gender identity journey.
