This year has seen an unprecedented LGBTQ+ activity for comic fans. DC and Marvel both released Pride anthology projects and a number of major characters have come out. Now it's time to put the new Superman in that mix.
In an upcoming comic titled Superman: Son of Kal-El #5, which is on stands November 9, Jon Kent, the son of Clark Kent and Lois Lane, will come out as bisexual and kiss his first male love interest.
"I've always said everyone needs heroes and everyone deserves to see themselves in their heroes and I’m very grateful DC and Warner Bros. share this idea,” said writer Tom Taylor. “Superman's symbol has always stood for hope, for truth and for justice. Today, that symbol represents something more. Today, more people can see themselves in the most powerful superhero in comics."
Kent's love interest is reporter Jay Nakumura with Nakumura caring for Kent when he becomes burned out from the stress of the world.
In Batman: Urban Legends #6, Robin makes it clear that he is queer, accepting a date with Bernard against the Chaos Monsters.
In a series launched during Pride Month 2021 to celebrate the 80th anniversary of one of Catain America's first appearnce, fans are introduced to Aaron Fischer. Fischer is a "fealess teen who stepped up to protect fellow runaways and the unhoused."
"Aaron is inspired by heroes of the queer community: activists, leaders, and everyday folks pushing for a better life," writer Joshua Trujillo (who created Aaron alongside artist Jan Bazaldua) said in a statement.
