Walk the Moon Singer Nicholas Petricca Comes Out as Bisexual
He shared his truth on the last day of Pride.
Pride month may be over, but Walk the Moon front man Nicholas Petricca slid in with a revelatory Instagram post in the final moments of June, proudly announcing to the world that he is bisexual.
The “Shut Up and Dance” singer posted a nearly five minute long video, sharing that while has never publicly said that he’s bisexual, he has “feelings for, [is] attracted to both men and women,” and has “had experiences with both men and women, and i’m proud of it.”
“I believe that sexuality is a spectrum, and I believe that most people probably live somewhere in between these far ends, heteronormative ends of this spectrum,” Petricca said. “And I believe that you can be an LGBTQ+ person whether you have had a particular type of experience with someone yet, or ever, in your life.”
Petricca’s overall message was that he feels it’s imperative for everyone feels free to be who they are, because “it’s vital to our future. It’s vital to the whole world.”
“So to the extent to which this message serves that end, and to the extent to which it serves you…if this gives you a degree of courage, confidence, if this gives you 1% more permission to be unapologetically yourself — then f u c k y e a h,” he said.
Walk the Moon fans have largely come out in support of Petricca, while also pointing out that some of the lyrics (like “Maybe if I was straight” in 2017's "All I Want") never really hid what the singer now wants to share so openly with the world.
But sometimes, you just gotta say it out loud! Happy (belated) Pride!
