"In case no one got the memo, I’m gay."
Etta Ng, Jackie Chan's daughter, has come out as a lesbian on social media.
The 18-year-old Hong Kong native announced her sexual orientation to her fans earlier this week on Instagram. According to NewNowNext, Ng posted a photo of herself in front of a rainbow background with the caption, "In case no one got the memo, I’m gay." She later replaced it with the hashtags "#lgbtqai #lgbt #lesbian#androgynous".
Her girlfriend, social media influencer Andi Autumn, also announced their relationship on Instagram in a touching post. "I’ve never met anyone like [Etta]. She has given me a chance to fully express the running thoughts in my head. No judgments, just understanding. We've been pushed down again and again but its worth it knowing we will get through it together, side by side," Andi wrote. "We’ve encountered a lot of discrimination from family, friends and the Hong Kong society. But none of it matters when I know every morning [you’re] going to be next to me. I love you."
While same-sex relationships were decriminalized in 1991, same-sex marriage is still unrecognized in China and many LGBT people still face discrimination. Ng says her father, Jackie Chan, has "never been in my life."
Nevertheless, Congrats Etta and Andi!
