Lil Nas X’s propensity for trolling has left fans in a state where they perpetually can’t swear to anything he says being true or just messing around. His latest? Leaving everyone wondering whether he just came out as bisexual.
The rapper initially came out as gay back in 2019 with a couple of tweets, including one that just shared screenshots from one of his music videos that included rainbows, with the caption, “deadass thought i made it obvious.”
His more recent series of tweets are less cryptic, but still leave fans on uncertain footing.
“be fr would y’all be mad at me if i thought i was a little bisexual,” he asked on Monday, following it up the next day with a promise that “that was my last time coming out the closet.”

Regardless of uncertainty whether Lil Nas was being serious or just goofing around, fans wanted to make sure he knew he had their support to explore his identity and not feel boxed in to fitting a single label if it no longer felt true to him.

“I'm so here for well established celebrities who have come out as gay navigating the fluidity of sexuality and accepting themselves publicly in real time. it can only help expand more people's understanding of how malleable identity and experience is at different phases of life.”— elly belle 🔮 (they/them) (@elly belle 🔮 (they/them)) 1673380346
Lil Nas X can, of course “come out of the closet” with whatever identities he’s vibing with whenever he wants, and as many times as he wants. Whether that’s what’s happening now or not might not matter as much as the reminder it offers all of his fans that nobody has to declare who they are and stick to it forever.
In other words, trolling or not, Lil Nas is encouraging others to keep it real, and remains a queer king we love to stan.
Lil Nas X, whose real name is Montero Lamar Hill, reportedly chose his stage name based on an old Twitter account he used to run.
Lil Nas X became famous after his song "Old Town Road" went viral on TikTok.
As of early 2022, Lil Nas X has released one studio album, two EPs, and a mixtape.
