Just days after Grant Coulson publicly came out as gay, things have taken an uncomfortable turn for the Geordie Shore star.
Coulson gained a reputation as a ladies’ man while appearing on the MTV reality show, which included a stint in both 2014 and 2018, claiming to have slept with over 30 women during that time. But just last week, he came out as gay during an interview with The Sun after falling in love with a man named Scott.
“It’s only because I have found someone I am comfortable with, who is exactly the same as me. He just brings out the best in me and I bring out the best in him,” he said. “He moved in and we have some big plans in the next couple of months. We have a dog together, called Hugo, so it’s going well.
“I feel like he is the one, I have definitely settled down. I hope marriage is on the cards.”
While it was a sweet story, only days later, Coulson’s boyfriend was allegedly spotted kissing a woman.
“Grant has been left devastated by this,” a source told The Mirror. “He was out supporting his brother DJ’ing and was told Scott had kissed a woman. He’s seen pictures of it and can’t believe it just days after they went public.”
The timing left some people suspicious, with Instinct questioning whether it indicated Coulson’s coming out was merely a publicity stunt. However, publicly declaring yourself part of a marginalized group of society for nothing more than clout isn’t exactly the widespread phenomenon some people seem to think it is, and it seems far kinder to err on the side of giving Coulson the benefit of the doubt here, regardless of what comes next for him.
“I think now I just feel more comfortable with who I am,” he initially told The Sun. “For years I hid the real me and now I am finally happy, I feel like everyone needs to know the real me. I feel like I have been hiding myself for such a long period of time, it just a bit of a weight lifted off my shoulders.”
So hopefully whatever does come next for Coulson is a continuation of pursuing authenticity and peace—with or without an allegedly cheating boyfriend.
