How are gay and lesbian couples handling having to isolate and quarantine themselves during the current global health pandemic? And what are the differences between them? Those are the hard-hitting questions comedian and YouTuber Michael Henry is exploring in his latest sketch "LESBIAN vs GAY ISOLATION."
In the skit, Michael and his BF Steve (played by his friend Kevin) are walking down the street (wearing kids party hats as face masks) when they run into a friend named Gina and her girlfriend Shiah (the two women are an actual couple IRL). When the two couples start talking about how the past few months have been going for each of them in lockdown, their experiences seem to be very...different.
Gina and Shiah are having the time of their lives, baking bread, making arts and crafts, connecting with each other spiritually and mentally, and having tons of sex. On the other hand, Michael and Steve are visibly irritated with each other, since they're not getting enough sex and they haven't been able to indulge in the things they're used to in normal life, like festivals, parties, and a third man named Javier.
The satirical skit is a hilarious play on some of the stereotypes and dynamics that LGBTQ+ couples face, like "U-Hauling" (in the skit, Gina and Shiah say they've only been together for a few months but are already living with each other) and open relationships.
"You really put a relationship to the test when you can only have sex with each other," Michael vents.
